SIAM Conference on Computational Science and Engineering

Going virtual:

Are you looking to participate in thorough, tech-centered conversations on a diverse array of topics in computational science and engineering? Then SIAM's (virtual) 2021 Conference on Computational Science and Engineering, which was originally slated to be held Mar. 1-5 in Fort Worth, TX., is perfect for you!

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, SIAM's 2021 CSE Conference will be conducted virtually from Mar. 1-5, and deadlines to register have been extended. Pre-registration takes place online on/before Feb. 15 and standard registration will open up following that. Rates vary depending on your status as a SIAM member and student, as highlighted below.

What is SIAM's CSE Conference?

SIAM's CSE Conference delves into themes such as AI/machine learning, data assimilation, and other computational science and engineering concepts. There's an engaging offering for anyone interested in registering.

Here's what David Bernholdt, who attended SIAM's 2019 CSE Conference on behalf of Better Scientific Software had to say about the event:
"With a diverse crowd, and opportunities to create sessions tailored to our interests, we've found it (SIAM's CSE Conference) a great venue to organize sessions on software development, productivity and sustainability."

Here is the comprehensive list of topics that will be covered during this year's conference.

Why should I register?

SIAM's CSE Conference is where the next generation of computational scientists are molded. It's a fun-filled, yet challenging informational playground where you're surrounded by like-minded people. By the end of the conference, you'll be energized and ready to conquer your next challenge in the realm of CSE!

Events:

There is a slew of events that will be taking place during 2021's conference, including mini-tutorials and a career fair. For a full rundown of conference events, follow this link.

However, I will highlight three essential events taking place during this year's conference.

1. Software Productivity and Sustainability for CSE (Mar. 1, 9:45 AM ET-11:25 AM ET)

Organized by Lois McInnes (Argonne National Lab) and Stuart Yates (Swiss National Supercomputing Center), this mini-symposium tackles challenges in all things software, including productivity and sustainability. With this space rapidly evolving, this is a "must-attend."

2. Computational Modeling for the COVID-19 pandemic (Mar. 2, 2:15 PM ET-3:55 PM ET)

Samantha Erwin and John Gounley of Oak Ridge National Lab apply computational models to help better navigate the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Important event with COVID still a huge part of our reality.

3. Career Fair (Mar. 3, 10:00 AM-2:00 PM ET, 3:00 PM-5:00 PM ET)

Job seekers will be able to speak to representatives from organizations about opportunities for internships, postdoctoral appointments, and full-time positions. Participants include National Security Agency and ExxonMobile.

See ya there?
